Whoa, lotta shit goin’ down. April 26, 2008

This blog, for me, is just a place for my random thoughts and emotional venting.  I like to pick my ideas apart in front of everyone (yeah, all—what is it, now, seven?—all seven of you) and allow others to help me clarify what’s right and good and holy about humanity.  So I’m a little worried that maybe I should be more aware of all the feeds that come into my brain, have a little tango, and wash back out onto my shores, based on seeing what’s been going on with the whole blogger of color/white feminist privilege thingy.  (I will not name names here because I don’t think I have even a sliver of insight about the conflict.)  Let me say this here:  if you see something here that belongs to you, or if you think I’m wagging my privilege, call me on it.  Please.  The last thing I would want to see would be someone feeling left out or taken advantage of because I’m a little bit of a bull in a china shop.  I try try try to be cautious and compassionate and I don’t expect someone to “correct” my privilege—that’s mine alone to deconstruct—but I know I don’t always succeed.

Oh, and if you feel so inclined, I’m always looking for folks to put on the blogroll.  If your name isn’t there it’s not because I don’t like your blog but rather because, for a future medical professional, I actually have a rather short attention span.  Oo, daisies!

So far so good, phledge. It has been interesting and mind opening watching the feminism & priviledge issues shake down.

Also, I see that you are a UU. I actually belong to CLF, because there are no fellowships close enough to where I live to justify the drive. I drove out to the Phoenix Fellowship for a while, but at a 45 minute drive, and my fiance getting a speeding ticket, we gave up.
My little blog wouldn’t fit in any of your categories on your blogroll. 😉 I will make sure and give you a holler next time I am in Vegas.

Well, if you decide you’re interested in background on the current – ah – series of incidents, I have a few thousand links I can send you (and, full disclosure, a dog in the fight) if you want to email me.

The Rotund also has an up to date note or two.

Littlem, you’re awesome. I’ve read a couple of different points of view on a couple of different sites and I feel like I have no frame of reference since I never saw bfp’s blog and I don’t really know anyone in the fray save for the few fatosphere people who are on the sidelines. I just saw one post wherein a woman of color denounced feminism and it really broke my heart, y’know? All judgments aside, how is it that feminism has come to, or has been in, a place where its message doesn’t ring true to, well, everyone? Because to me—and this is definitely part of my spiritual concept as well as my medical philosophy—we are all one being, suffering for as long as one part of us suffers. I cannot sit back and say, “Done. Happy.” as long as someone else is in shadow and delusion and pain. Have I been mistaken? Is this not feminism?

The whole AM issue aside (because I honestly don’t know enough about it to have an educated opinion), I think it’s inevitable that a lot of people who write on fat and weight related issues are going to have similarities between their content – especially if they are from the same geographic region and are exposed to the same news, advertising and media outlets. I know that I’ve written about articles or events after a particular site has written about them but I also know that there have times when I have written about something and seen the topic addressed elsewhere at a later date. Inevitable.

If you are so inclined, check out http://www.spacedcowgirl.com and see if you want to be associated with my crazy natterings. If so, feel free to add me. 🙂 I have to admit I just stumbled upon your blog (just learning about this crazy “feed” business and how to read the posts on it) but I have enjoyed reading your comments elsewhere and appreciate this post.

Hi there!

When an issue of fat acceptance comes up, I enjoy reading the different perspectives on the different blogs. I’d appreciate it if you would check out my blog and add it to the roll if you like it. http://www.fatpungoeshere.com.
